Uber Australia has launched an exciting new brand campaign featuring Canadian country-pop superstar Shania Twain and Australian comedian-musician Tom Cardy. This fun advertising initiative celebrates the freedom and joy of being an Uber passenger, highlighting all the things you can’t do if you’re driving.
The campaign’s centerpiece is a catchy new jingle performed by Shania Twain and Tom Cardy. The ad opens with Tom catching an Uber ride to a club, spontaneously breaking into song from the backseat. Shania Twain then magically appears, joining him in a duet to emphasize that many everyday activities are only possible when you’re not behind the wheel.
The humorous video showcases various scenarios, from Shania playing Wordle on her phone and Tom attempting a trombone solo, to backseat photoshoots, makeup touch-ups, making music beats, or simply enjoying a nap. The collaborative song, penned by Twain and Cardy, clearly conveys the message: these small luxuries and freedoms are exclusive to the Uber backseat experience.
The jingle also includes playful nods to Shania Twain’s classic hits. Tom’s mistaken lyrics, like “Let’s go friends” instead of a familiar Shania lyric, adds a nice touch.
“The song is really fun and Tom is hilarious. I loved working with him and his Aussie charm,” said Shania Twain. “I’m no stranger to singing in cars, I grew up singing with my mum in the car, writing lyrics in the car, changing for my next performance in the car (can’t do that if you’re driving!), so this fun idea suited me perfectly.
Uber’s new brand campaign is built around the tagline “Can’t do that if you’re driving“. It aims to remind users about the daily advantages of choosing Uber rides, whether it’s singing along to music, connecting with friends, or simply relaxing during your commute.
