Bundaberg Aquatic Centre opening date announced

The wait is over, with the opening date finally announced for the Bundaberg Aquatic Centre.

Doors of the highly anticipated facility will open tomorrow and the community is invited to come and try it out for free over the weekend between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

Mayor Helen Blackburn says the opening day marks a major milestone for the region.

“This facility has been a long time coming and we can’t wait to see families, clubs, schools and visitors all enjoying this space.

“From the many wonderful accessibility features and the ample space for exercising, training or just having fun, this centre is designed for everyone.”

Almost 600 lucky community members have already taken part in free, guided tours of the facility ahead of the opening, giving the community an exclusive sneak peek behind the scenes.

Many tour participants have said they were thrilled by what they saw.

Pamela Croft was one such local who says she was excited to use the accessibility features and spend time with her family at the new facility.

“I think it is brilliant, I don’t live far from here so I have been watching it grow and grow

“Now that I am having a look, it is spectacular.

“I can’t wait to do water aerobics in a warm pool.

“To be disabled – to have all of that disability stuff is fantastic.

“I can’t wait to bring my grandchildren here – they are going to love it too – I think it is brilliant for everyone in the family.”
