A petition to stop fishing at Bargara’s Nudibranch Park has received around 200 signatures.
The area is a popular diving site, but advocates fear fishing has significantly impacted the ecosystem.
Advocates are calling for the area to be designated as a green zone within the Great Sandy Marine Park.

A new zoning plan for the Marine Park came into effect in May increasing the proportion of green zones from 3.9 per cent to 12.8 per cent.
The classification would ban fishing, crabbing, spearfishing and bait netting in the area.
