Local sport and racing clubs impacted by flooding in the Bundaberg region can now apply for grants.

Grants of up to $5,000 are at the ready through the state government’s Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program (SRDRP) to aid immediate clean-up efforts.

Additional relief available for racing participants through Racing Queensland’s Training Assistance Fund.

The SRDRP is designed to get local clubs back on their feet as quickly as possible and continue to serve their communities.

Funding can be used for the replacement of damaged equipment that directly relates to the re-establishment of activities, as well as costs incurred with the clean-up.

Grants of up to $1,000 will also be made available for racing participants impacted across Queensland through Racing Queensland’s Training Assistance Fund.

Minister for Fire, Disaster Recovery and Volunteers Ann Leahy says this was an important recovery step for Bundaberg locals.

“This funding will provide much needed relief for trainers and volunteer-run clubs that simply do not have the capacity to absorb the cost of flood damage on their own.

“It is important that clean-up is carried out only when safe to do so and that volunteers and club members don’t put themselves at unnecessary risk during this time.

“The activation of this funding is a timely and practical response that will help local sporting clubs recover, repair damaged facilities and get players, volunteers and families back on the field.

“From skiing to cricket, the Crisafulli Government is backing Bundaberg’s local sporting clubs to recover faster following this event.”

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett says funding would really help clubs with the clean-up efforts.

“We know how resilient the people of Bundaberg are, but it is important they know that the Crisafulli Government stands with them and we are here to help.
