Man charged with murder following string of alleged violent attacks in Childers

A 36-year-old Bundaberg West man has been charged with murder and several other serious offences following a string of alleged violent incidents, in Childers and North Isis.

It comes after a 78-year-old man, who was walking along Whitebridge Road at North Isis around 2.40pm yesterday, was allegedly assaulted and hit with a metal pole.

The North Isis man sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

Police allege before this incident, the offender was driving a Subaru Liberty on North Street in Childers, when he reversed into a Mitsubishi Pajero, deliberately colliding with the vehicle.

When the driver of the Mitsubishi, a 65-year-old Howard man, exited his vehicle to inspect the damage, the Subaru driver is alleged to have reversed into him.

The Subaru driver is then alleged to have exited his vehicle and punched the victim multiple times before leaving the scene.

It’ be alleged the Subaru driver drove to Crescent Street at the intersection of Lord Street in Childers and assaulted a 66-year-old man.

The alleged offender was then restrained by members of the public and police arrested him a short time later.

He has since been charged with one count each of murder, attempt to murder, acts intended to maim/disfigure/ disable, dangerous operation of a vehicle and evasion.

He will appear at Gladstone Magistrates Court via video link today, 28 May.
