People who love our region are being encouraged to help show it off.

Bundaberg Tourism says the past 2.5 years have seen recording breaking visitation to the area and numbers are expected to grow.

Around 25,000 guests go through the Bundaberg Region’s Visitor Information Centres (VIC) every year, but more volunteers are needed to keep up with demand.

Volunteer ambassadors provide support to the experience team by greeting visitors and assisting them with planning their time in the region and sharing information on local tourism offerings, with an aim to increase visitation to local businesses and attractions.

The Bundaberg VIC, next to the iconic Bundaberg Rum Distillery, and the Childers VIC, located in the Childers main street, offer volunteer ambassadors an opportunity to discover behind the scenes of the tourism industry, with regular free day tours to experience the regions attractions and operators, in addition to full training to support their existing knowledge.

Bundaberg Tourism’s visitor experience manager Anna Maslen says passionate local volunteers are integral to their work.

“These members of the local community volunteer their time out of pure love for the region and share recommendations, stories of the area and insider tips to assist travellers in making the most of their time in the region. Creating genuine connections and leaving heartfelt lasting impressions with visitors to the Southern Great Barrier Reef,” she says.

“Our friendly team are motivated by the fresh outlook that comes with our volunteers and we look forward to welcoming some new faces into the visitor information’s centres.”
