Local footy fans will get a chance to get up close and personal with the AFL Premiership Cup, as it gets locked in for a visit to Bundaberg this month.
Bundaberg Mayor Jack Dempsey wrote to AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, pushing for our town to be added onto the Queensland tour list.
"Bundaberg is one of the major regional centres in Queensland and proudly supports two
senior clubs in the AFL Wide Bay competition," Mr Dempsey said.
"I respectfully suggest it will benefit the code in the Bundaberg Region if the Premiership
Cup can visit Gin Gin, Bundaberg and Childers on its way from Gladstone to Toowoomba."
In a letter of reply, AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said he was glad to report the venue arrangements will be altered to add Bundaberg as a stop on the tour.
"Our Cup is something that we do want fans to be able to see close-up, where they wish to do so," Mr McLachlan said.
"With restrictions across the country, and particularly so in Victoria where 10 of our clubs are based, the support of Queensland to host our teams has truly saved our season."
