Victorian covid-19 case puts Queenslanders on alert

Queenslanders are being told to reconsider travelling to Victoria as the southern state scrambles to understand how a worker at an Australian Open quarantine hotel contracted coronavirus.

Queensland Health says the border will stay open for now, but it is closely watching to see how the situation unfolds over the next few days with a long list of exposure sites in Melbourne's south-east.

The 26-year-old man, who is also a volunteer firefighter, had been working as part of the Australian Open quarantine program.

Anyone who has been in Greater Melbourne since 29 January and arrived into Queensland is being told to get tested – even if they do not have symptoms – and isolate until they receive a result.

Victorian officials say anyone - including people now in Queensland - who went to the exposure venues needs to isolate for 14days.

The Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young is asking aged care, hospitals and disability and corrective service to screen all visitors for anyone who has been to Greater Melbourne from January 29. They should not visit those establishments unless they are doing so to say goodbye to loved ones likely to pass away.
