A child from New South Wales has been injured in an attack by two dingoes on Fraser Island.

Paramedics are treating the boy for minor injuries following the incident at Orchid Beach, at around 9.30am.

The Department of Environment and Science says rangers are investigating what exactly has happened.

Duty Paramedic Lee said the boy is recovering well

"The child suffered a minor apprahsion but there are no puncture wounds"

He said the attack is a timely warning

"Always make sure your children are at least within one to two arms length of you at all times, if you do see a dingo put yourself between the dingo and your child, never run from a dingo that is advancing from you,  always face it and carry a stick "

Previously, QPWS has used tracking collars to reduce negative interactions between wongari and people. When investigations have determined that wongari present an unacceptable risk to the public, decisions have been made to euthanise the animals.

Rangers have not observed any obvious health issues with the wongari population after the recent fires.

The health of the wongari that live on K’gari is constantly monitored by experienced rangers and the  animals are observed to be in overall good health and have an abundance of natural food resources.
