The remnants of ex-tropical cyclone Lucas is whipping up huge swell and dangerous conditions along Wide Bay beaches.
The Bureau of Meteorology is warning hazardous three-metre swell, moving in an easterly direction, will continue until Sunday.
The warning is in place for beaches from the Fraser Coast stretching down to the Gold Coast.
BOM forecaster Rosa Hoff says ex-tropical cyclone Lucas, which was near Fiji, continues to generate swell by hovering over the sea,
“The system is transient and expected to move south, and not directly impact Queensland’s weather,” Ms Hoff says.
“But the swell is making conditions on the beaches dangerous for activities like rock fishing, boating and surfing.”
Heat on the way
A “low intensity” heatwave is on the way to the Wide Bay, which is expected to peak on Sunday.
Temperatures will reach 34C in Bundaberg, 32C in Hervey Bay, 35C in Maryborough and 35C in Gympie.
But Ms Hoff says it won’t last long with things expected to cool down next week.
“We could have some strong wind warnings for the start of next week too.”
