A warning for anyone camping on Fraser Island these school holidays, with dangerous surf conditions expected along the coast today.
Beachgoers are warned to consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
"We do currently have a Hazardous Surf Warning out for Sunshine Coast waters a the moment, it's also for Fraser Island coast and Gold Coast waters," says Matt Marshall from the Bureau of Meteorology.
"This is of course associated with the same trough that's bringing all the weather [to the south-east]," Mr Marshall says.
"It's whipping up a bit of sea spray, a fair bit of swell as well."
Surf Life Saving Queensland advises rock fishers to avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Boaties planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars are being told to consider changing or delaying their voyage, while those already out on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
SLQS says taking the boat out should also remember to log on with their local radio base and consider their safety management plan.
