New data from Bundaberg Police on motorcycle accidents in the region has prompted a safety warning coming into the weekend.

The majority of crashes are either fatal or result in serious injury and more than 90% of motorcyclists involved are male.

Senior Constable Danielle Loftus says they are also predominantly occurring on weekends.

“Saturday is the significant day and that’s just when people are riding for pleasure.

“Motorcyclists are considered to be vulnerable road users.

“We ask people who are motorcyclists, as well as other motorists, just to be aware they are around and they don’t have as much protection.”
