The ‘Galaxy’ Movie Fever is Real: Why Mario Wonder’s Switch 2 Upgrade is Perfect Timing

If you have stepped into a cinema lately, you will know exactly why my house currently sounds like a symphony of “wahoos” and simulated jumping noises. We just took the kids to see the new Mario Galaxy film, and the obsession has reached a fever pitch. Naturally, every stick in the backyard is now a magic wand, and I have been asked approximately 400 times if we can move to an observatory in deep space.

The timing, quite frankly, couldn’t be better. Just as the “I want to be Mario” energy hit its peak, Nintendo dropped Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park. This edition serves as a polished, expanded victory lap for what was already a modern classic.

Welcome to Bellabel Park

The standout is undoubtedly Bellabel Park, a massive new hub tucked away in a fresh corner of the Flower Kingdom. This isn’t just a menu screen; it’s a living space where you can earn “Bellabel Water” to grow sprouts and customise the park’s layout.

If you love social gaming (or have a house full of eager children), Attraction Central is the place to be. It features 17 different local multiplayer attractions. If your friends are further afield, the Game Room Plaza supports up to 12 players online. It’s cheeky, chaotic, and exactly the kind of “one more round” gameplay Nintendo excels at.

Familiar Foes and Galactic Friends

The story has received a welcome injection of drama thanks to the Koopalings. Bowser’s unruly offspring have pinched the prized Bellabel Flowers, and chasing them down adds a series of new boss encounters across the Kingdom.

To help even the odds (and to the absolute delight of my kids after the movie) Rosalina joins the playable roster. She brings her signature grace to the Flower Kingdom, but the real star for parents is the Co-Star Luma. A second player can jump in as Luma using a controller or even using it as a mouse, flying around to collect coins and defeat enemies without the stress of taking damage. It is a brilliant way to include a younger child in the fun without them constantly falling off ledges or lagging behind.

New Tricks up the Sleeve

Mechanically, the game feels fresher with the introduction of the Super Flower Pot power-up. Transforming into a walking flower allows you to launch blossoms upwards or flutter through the air to save a dodgy jump.

Nintendo has also introduced Dual Badges, allowing you to combine two effects at once. Want to soar through the air while also having a safety net? Now you can. And for those who found the original “Wonder Gauntlets” a bit bruising, the new Assist Mode ensures you won’t take damage or lose a life to a bottomless pit.

The Verdict: Upgrade or Pass?

If you already own the original on the first Switch, Nintendo is offering an Upgrade Pack. This lets veteran players carry their progress over to the Switch 2 while accessing all the Bellabel Park content and enhanced visuals.

Between the new amiibo (Elephant Mario is a must-have) and the surprisingly charming real-life Talking Flower merchandise that reacts to the time of day, Nintendo is making a strong play for our heartstrings. For a family currently living and breathing all things Mario, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
