Lionsgate was at the recent CinemaCon session to announce that a prequel for “The Hunger Games” series was in the works titled “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”.
Francis Lawrence, who directed “Catching Fire,” and ” Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2″, is directing the prequel based on the book of the same name that was released as in May 2020.
This new story follows Coriolanus Snow at age 18, years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem.
Young Coriolanus is handsome and charming, and though the Snow family has fallen on hard times, he sees a chance for a change in his fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor for the Tenth Hunger Games. only to have his elation dashed when he is assigned to mentor the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.
To understand the time period it is set in, it is 64 years before so this takes place for the 10th annual Hunger Games while Katniss Everdeen was a tribute for the 74th.
The cast is yet to be revealed but watch this space for more!
