Two yacht passengers have thanked LifeFlight, Queensland Ambulance Service and Marine Rescue Queensland crews for rescuing them after they got stranded off the Bundaberg coast.

It happened on Thursday, 25 nautical miles from Burnett Heads, after the 15 metre vessel had its sails twisted and engine damaged.

A male passenger also needed immediate medical attention at the scene.

LifeFlight rescue crew officer Daniel Finter was tasked with retrieving the patient and described the moment it happened.

“He was pretty happy when I hooked the rescue strop around him,” Mr Finter said.

“The look of relief on his face said it all.”

While colleague and air crew officer Billy-Joe Stutz said things can still go wrong on a seemingly perfect day.

“But when they do, we’re there and ready to go,” Mr Stutz said.
