Police are hoping a half a million dollar reward would lead to information about the circumstances behind Bryan Hodgkinson’s death.
The Queensland Police Service has upped the reward in a bid to solve the nearly four decade cold case.
Taxi driver Bryan Hodgkinson was reported missing in September 1987 – after not coming home from a shift.
His body was found off Goodwood Road in Goodwood, with head and throat trauma, along with stab wounds to his abdomen and chest.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tara Kentwell said there was a person of interest they are looking to talk to.
“Police would like to speak with the person with the name ‘Sykes’ who called Bundaberg Taxis at 12.31am on September 10, 1987, requesting a taxi pickup from the corner of Targo and Burnett Streets,” Detective Kentwell said.
“We are seeking any person who may have seen Bryan’s taxi travelling out of and back into Bundaberg CBD.”
Police investigations found Mr Hodgkinson accepted a taxi fare 30 minutes before he was scheduled to clock off on the night he went missing.
A coronial inquest in 2018 couldn’t find any definitive information about the events that lead to Mr Hodgkinson’s death.
Son Stephen Hodgkinson hopes the renewed call will bring the family much needed closure.
“I’m not sure now about what justice looks like after such a long period of time, but some form of closure or even more details about the events of September 1987 would be appreciated,” he said.
