The Bundaberg region has taken out some of the top spots at the 40th Queensland Tourism awards, thanks to it’s distillery experiences and opportunities connecting visitors to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
Turtle Sands Nature Resort has claimed Gold for New Tourism Business and Bundaberg Rum Distillery has secured Silver for Tourism Wineries, Distilleries & Breweries.
The event was held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday, with more than 1,000 tourism leaders from across Queensland attending to celebrate the state’s $34.7 billion visitor economy.
Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Natassia Wheeler says Bundaberg’s recognition reflected the region’s growing reputation for premium, sustainable and story-driven tourism experiences.
“Bundaberg continues to demonstrate leadership in tourism, from its world-class distillery experiences to its remarkable connection to the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
“The success of Turtle Sands Nature Resort and Bundaberg Rum Distillery shows how the region continues to innovate, attract new audiences and contribute to Queensland’s reputation as a destination of quality and care.”
Wheeler says the Awards were as much about professional growth as they are about recognition.
“The Queensland Tourism Awards represent more than a single night of celebration – they’re the end point of a journey that starts months earlier.
“Every entrant undertakes a process of reflection, benchmarking and improvement.
“That’s what drives capability and consistency across our industry.
“The businesses we celebrate tonight have invested in their people, their experiences and their communities – and that’s what will help shape Queensland’s reputation as a global destination.”
Wheeler adds that the milestone 40th year of the Awards comes at a defining time for the sector.
“Tourism is one of Queensland’s most important economic pillars – supporting more than 260,000 jobs and contributing billions to the economy each year.
“As we look towards Brisbane 2032, there’s never been a more critical time to recognise and strengthen the talent that underpins our success.”
