The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was called into action at 9:30am, tasked to meet the vessel, which was in the Coral Sea, just north of K’gari (Fraser Island).

Equipment and the Rescue Crew Officer were separately winched down onto the deck of the trawler.

The patient was prepared for hoisting then lifted from the vessel into the rescue chopper.

He was taken to Bundaberg Hospital for further treatment.

It was the local crew’s fourth oceanic mission in a week.

Last Wednesday, they winched a man from a bulk carrier 70 nautical miles off-shore.

In the early hours of the same day, the crew had located and airlifted two survivors of a boating incident off the Central Queensland Coast.

The day before, the crew winched an injured man from a long-line fishing vessel, 100 nautical miles off the coast in the Coral Sea.
