Bundaberg residents are asked to check if they are eligible to register as organ and tissue donors.
The push is part of DonateLife week, with statistics from the organisation suggesting that while a majority of Australians are willing to be donors, only a fraction are actually on the register.
Bundaberg-based organ donation specialist Karen Jenner said it can be a matter of life or death.
“This DonateLife Week, I’m urging everyone to please register as an organ and tissue donor,” Ms Jenner said.
“Let them know you want to be a donor; someone’s life depends on it.”
The Member for Burnett, Stephen Bennett, said it only takes a minute out of the day to register.
“So many people in our community support donation, but far fewer take the next step and register,” Mr Bennett said.
“It is also an important reminder that registering as a donor could one day save the life of someone in our own community.”
