Volunteer numbers are down across the region’s SES units.
It’s as we’re preparing for a 70 per cent chance of increased rain and flooding, from La Nina, in the coming months.
Help is needed across Elliott Heads, Bargara, Moore Park, Bundaberg, Childers, Woodgate and Gin Gin.
Deputy local controller Luke Harding says it’s as good as time as any to sign up.
“We can get through most of your courses … before the storm season. We just need people to volunteer and come along and join the units,” he says.
People as young as 16 can join.
“They can’t go out on an activation straight away but they can help around the sheds quite a bit. We’re looking for 18s right up to 60 year old people,” Mr Harding says.
Units are prepared as they can be for the heavy rain ahead, but desperately need more people power.
“We will take a little bit longer to get to your jobs but we are on our way and we will get there as soon as we’ve finished the job we’re at at the moment,” Mr Harding says.
