MP David Batt has urged local residents to prepare for an increased bushfire, cyclone and flooding risk as we head into Summer.

The member for Hinkler was in Canberra this week with a timely reminder for all Queenslanders as well as those in his electorate locally.

“Weather doesn’t plan but you can,” he said.

The call out comes as we observe Get Ready Week in Queensland.

“Cyclones, bushfires, damaging storms and flooding rains are a constant threat,” David Batt said.

“Last week my community experienced hailstorms. The Woodgate and Childers regions
experiencing the worst,” he said.

“This week – multiple bushfires are burning across the Hinkler electorate. Rural fire crews
are working around the clock to protect our community.”

He reflected in a record rain bomb in Hervey Bay in March which saw 189mm of rain falling in just two hours.

“It came with little warning- the recovery is [still] ongoing for hundreds of flooded homes and businesses,” Mr Batt said.
