DISNEY REVEALS FIRST TRAILER AND POSTER FOR LIVE-ACTION “MOANA,” STARRING CATHERINE LAGAʻAIA AND FEATURING THE RETURN OF DWAYNE JOHNSON AS MAUI

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of “Moana” sets sail into cinemas July 9, 2026.

Disney has today unveiled the eagerly awaited first trailer and poster for its live-action “Moana.” The film stars Catherine Lagaʻaia in the titular role and sees Dwayne Johnson reprise his iconic role as the mischievous demigod Maui.

The trailer offers an initial glimpse into the reimagined adventure, introducing audiences to the breathtaking island of Motunui and its vibrant community. It showcases the shapeshifting Maui, the formidable yet charming Kakamora, and Lagaʻaia as the brave wayfinder Moana, delivering the powerful anthem, “I Am Moana.”

Joining Lagaʻaia and Johnson, the “Moana” cast includes John Tui (from Auckland, New Zealand) as Moana’s steadfast father, Chief Tui; Samoan-New Zealander Frankie Adams as Moana’s spirited and resolute mother, Sina; and Rena Owen (from Bay of Islands, New Zealand) as the revered Gramma Tala.

In Disney’s live-action adaptation of the beloved Oscar®-nominated animated film, Moana (Catherine Lagaʻaia) answers the Ocean’s call, venturing beyond her island’s reef for the first time. Alongside the legendary demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), she embarks on an unforgettable journey to restore prosperity to her people.
