Known for his warm hospitality, Maurice receives homemade treats from grateful passengers, particularly pensioners and elderly riders.

Behind the wheel, his motto is to stay “stress-free and cheerful”, earning him praise as the best bus driver by those that have met and journeyed with him.

“Being a bus driver I didn’t realise how rewarding it could be in so many ways,” he says.

“It’s really those passengers … just seeing them come on the bus each day they make me happy, I make them happy and that makes my day.

“I just feel humbled about this nomination and if I won it would make me feel like I’m on top of the world to know that people have appreciated all the work that I’ve done.”

Acting Head of Translink Peter Milward says 1860 nominations were received this year.

“The sheer number of nominations received demonstrates the outstanding service our bus drivers deliver in communities across Queensland,” he says.

“Congratulations to every bus driver who received a nomination and well done to the finalists for standing out in such a high-quality field.”

Queenslanders can now view videos of the finalists and cast their vote on the Translink website.

Voting is open until 14 March. The winner in each category will be announced at the annual Queensland Bus Industry Council conference on April 6th.
