Forensic crash investigation students at CQ University Bundaberg will today receive their first crash wreck towards a new study innovation. ANCAP Safety Rating is donating a crash tested jeep wrangler, which will be used by students to gain first hand experience in crash analysis. Associate professor George Rechnitzer says they're starting a forensic exhibit crash lab, and want to acquire a series of crashed vehicles including cars, planes and trains. He says the wrecks will assist the students with their learning. “The students can learn from that in terms of the damage, how to investigate a crashed vehicle and also analyse it.” “So that when they do a crash investigation they can do a whole lot of forensic analysis, it means a lot to us.” Students involved in the crash lab are enrolled in a Bachelor of Accident Forensics or Master of Accident Investigation, which aims to teach the skills to conduct accident investigations in road, rail, air and industrial environments. “It’s very rare in the world to have a course like this, it’s innovative and very worth while,” “In improving safety in Australia and of course internationally.” says Professor Rechnitzer. If you have a crashed vehicle that you would like to donate to the course, contact Professor Rechnitzer at the Bundaberg campus.
